IT Training Programme for Blind or Vision Impaired Computer Users
The IDOL Training Programme will react to the special needs of blind people, studying or already graduated and who intend to work in the open labour market.
Therefore the exercises focus on job seeking skills, like handling with WORD, E-Mailing, databases and spreadsheets.
The IT Training Programme is accessible to JAWS users.
The training consists of two parts:
Level 1 EATT (Equal Access to Technology Training):
The level is appropriated to users with no computer skills. The training programme will be delivered at a regional centre by a qualified IT trainer. The content of this course is:
- Starting and stopping the PC
- Windows
- Access Software (JAWS and Zoomtext)
- Word processing
- File and programme management
- Internet
At the end of Level 1, students will have a basic knowledge and understanding of how to use a computer and will be able to fulfil basic functions within the mentioned programmes.
The duration of Level 1 will be 24 hours. This can be: 8 sessions of 3 hours. For example two days per week over 4 weeks. Intervening days should be used by participants to practice IT skills and keyboard skills. At least 4 participants per group are recommended.

Level 2:
Level 2 will build on the skills developed in Level 1. This part will focus on the further development of the IT skills which are necessary in the work environment.
It will be delivered online on one's own initiative. It is also possible to take the course at a regional training center.
The training elements include:
- Spreadsheets
- Databases
At the end of Level 2, students will have a good knowledge and understanding of how to use a computer independently and to work with the mentioned programmes.
Level 2 will be finished with the closing assignment, dedicated to all the skills that participants will have developed throughout the course. It will include ideas and information about how they can use the programme to go forward into employment. In addition it will give information about specific further training programmes.
The duration of Level 2 will be 12 hours. This can be: 3 sessions about 4 hours. At least 4 participants per group are recommended (when present in a regional training centre).

After finishing the course effectually the member will receive the "IDOL certificate", attesting the successful participation.
